The ingredients needed to cook Chana Dal Tadka:
  1. Get 1 Cup Chana Dal
  2. Get 2 Tomatoes
  3. Use 2 Dry red chillies
  4. Provide 2 Green Chillies
  5. Take 2 tbsp Ghee
  6. You need 5 Curry leaves
  7. Take 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  8. Provide 2 tbsp Fresh coriander
  9. Take 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  10. Provide 1 tsp ginger paste

Instructions to make Chana Dal Tadka:
  1. Wash the Chana Dal throughly with water and then soak them for 3 to 4 hours in water.
  2. Finely chop the tomatoes and keep them aside. Remove the stalk of the green chillies and cut them length wise into 2 pieces.
  3. Heat a pressure cooker and add the soaked chana dal, 1.5 cups of water, salt and turmeric powder and cover the lid and cook the dal until a whistle is released. Then reduce the flame to low and cook the dal for 5 minutes more. Later, turn off the flame and let the pressure escape.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare the masala of the dal. For this, heat a pan with 1 tbsp of ghee. When it melts, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, remaining turmeric powder, coriander powder, ginger paste, green chillies and dry red chilli in the wok and saute till the masala for a while. Keep the flame on low so that the masala doesn't burn.
  5. Then add the tomatoes and red chilli powder in the pan. Mix everything properly and cook the masala untill the ghee starts separating from its edges then add red chilli powder as per taste.
  6. After a while when the ghee separates from the masala and the pressure of the cooker releases. Then open the cooker and add the dal in the masala followed by 1/2 cup of water, garam masala and green coriander. Mix throughly then cover and cook the dal for 4 to 5 minutes on low flame. Add water to make desired consistency of dal.
  7. 5 minutes later, dal will be ready, turn off the flame and transfer it in a bowl.
  8. Garnish this delectable and luscious chana dal with some ghee and green coriander and serve it steaming hot along with chapatti, parantha, naan or rice.
